Miyoko ‘Bunny’ McDonnell

NEGAUNEE, MI-Miyoko Tago ‘Bunny’ McDonnell, 96, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully at home Monday evening, July 14, 2025 while in the care of her loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Bunny was born January 20, 1929 in Tokyo, Japan to Kingiro and Kiyo (Taniguchi) Tago and graduated from high school in Japan. She met the late William McDonnnell while he was stationed in Japan during WWII and they were married before returning to the US in 1952 to live in Negaunee.

Bunny worked as a dietary supervisor for 20 years for the Palmer Nursing Home and Mather Nursing Center. She was a devout member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a life member of the Negaunee VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, playing cards, and most of all loved spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are her son, Michael (Jo) McDonnell of Negaunee Township; daughter, Kathleen McDonnell of Negaunee; two granddaughters: Amy (John) Duquette and Macy Jo (Andy Stanaway) McDonnell; her great-grandson, Emmett Duquette; her sister, Teriko, of Japan; two nephews; and her dear friend, Junko Krook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William ‘Bill’; and sister, Sachiko.

Bunny’s family extends a heartfelt thank you the UP Home Health and Hospice staff for their wonderful care provided.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 25th at the Negaunee Cemetery with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Mrs. McDonnell’s memory to the St. Paul Catholic Church Endowment Fund.
