Liam O’Day

MARQUETTE, MI-Liam Colin O’Day, 59, of Marquette, died Monday, June 30, 2025, at UP Health System-Marquette.

He was born October 23, 1965, in Merrill, Wisconsin, the youngest son of John B. and Patricia (Ryan) O’Day. His family relocated to Appleton in 1968 and then again to Marquette when Liam was six years old. He was a 1984 graduate of Marquette Senior High School and attended Northern Michigan University.

Liam was employed for many years in his family’s business, the Action Shopper-News. He then worked auto detailing at North Country Motors and Nelson Chevrolet, and maintenance and grounds at American Eagle, Marquette General Hospital, UP Health System and Northern Michigan University.

He was an excellent travel hockey player and also was involved in boxing. His interests included jigsaw puzzles, reading, and watching and participating in almost any sport available.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy (Gutzman) O’Day of Marquette; daughters, Marissa Aschemann and Amanda Maronen; sons, Sean (Cindy Wheeler) Maronen, Brett O’Day and Christopher O’Day; surviving siblings include Catlyn (Rob) Preston, Mavourneen O’Day, Colleen (Kirk) Nelson, Brian (Judy) O’Day and Aileen O’Day; he also leaves behind three grandsons, Dalton and Wyatt Aschemann and Brock Maronen; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and many, many friends.

Liam was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, a niece, and his beloved brother, Sean O’Day.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Presque Isle Pavilion in Marquette. Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family where memories may be shared at fassbenderswansonhansen.com
