James “Jimmy” Herbert Jensen

James “Jimmy” Herbert Jensen
MARQUETTE, MI- James “Jimmy” Herbert Jensen, 76, of Marquette, MI, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, after a long battle with lung disease, heart failure, and rheumatoid arthritis. A lifelong resident of Marquette, Jimmy is now reunited with his beloved parents, June and Lyle Jensen.
Jimmy was a proud graduate of Marquette Senior High School and served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, stationed in Germany. He valued his military service deeply and reflected on it with gratitude throughout his life.
After returning home, Jimmy worked for many years in maintenance with the Marquette Area Public Schools. He was known for his practical knowledge, dedication, and hands-on work maintaining and improving the school district’s building systems.
Jimmy was deeply devoted to his family and played a vital role in caring for his parents during their later years. His loyalty and quiet strength were constants in their lives.
An avid outdoorsman, Jimmy found great joy in hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. He fished Lake Superior and nearby inland lakes and spent countless hours deer hunting in Marquette and Dickinson Counties. He proudly entered several bucks into the Michigan Commemorative Bucks record book, most notably a non-typical 12-point buck scoring 164 6/8ã.
He loved sharing these pursuits with family and close friends. His brother Jary, nephew Ryan, and lifelong friends Skip (Gerald) VanBuren, Joe Bigger, and Wayne (Butch) DeVerney were frequent companions in the woods and on the water. Jimmy also enjoyed shooting trap and sporting clays, target shooting, and improving the family camp with the mechanical skills he was well known for.
In later years, he enjoyed exploring the world online-diving into topics like history, geography, and wildlife, always eager to learn something new.
Our family is deeply grateful for the caregivers and hospice workers who supported Jimmy in recent years. Their kindness and dedication meant the world to him and to us-they became more than caregivers; they became trusted friends and companions.
Jimmy is survived by his sister, Lora Resch (Darrel); his brother, Jary Jensen (Marilyn); nieces Michaela Thompson (Dwayne) and Jenafer Duley (Brandon); nephew Ryan Jensen (Kayla); and four grand-nephews and three grand-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, June and Lyle Jensen.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services beginning at 10 a.m. A memorial service will take in the funeral home at 12 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Hintz officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the reception room of the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sands Township Cemetery.
Jimmy’s quiet strength, deep loyalty, and love for family and the outdoors will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to U.P. Home Health and Hospice in Jimmy’s memory, in appreciation for their extraordinary care.
