Gerald ‘Hummer’ Morcom, Sr.

October 15, 1947 ­ July 12, 2025

ISHPEMING MI, MI ­ Gerald Keith ‘Hummer’ Morcom, Sr., 77, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Gerald was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on October 15, 1947, to the late William Henry and Marie Delina (Steede) Morcom. A hardworking man, Gerald held various positions throughout his career including work at Robbins Flooring, Sawyer-Stoll in North Lake, Republic Memorials, and ultimately retiring as a Liebherr operator from Potlatch Corporation.

Affectionately known as ‘Hummer’ to many, Gerald loved the outdoors and watching TV. He found joy in hunting, brook trout fishing, taking peaceful drives through the woods, and bird watching. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his two sons: Jerry (Renee) Morcom Jr. and Brian Morcom; granddaughter Shannon (Pat) Rushford; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Patron and Autumn Rushford; two sisters, Marlene Meyers and Cindy (Bernie) Lawry; brother Peter âNibã Morcom; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diana; an infant son, Duane; his parents; a brother, William âJuniorã Morcom; and a sister, Karen Morcom.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. A prayer service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Brandon Yanni officiating. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

A special thank you to the wonderful staff at the MCMCF and Dr. Kroll. From the Administration, to the Dietary, Activities, Nursing, Aides, Housekeeping and Maintenance. He enjoyed his time joking and teasing everyone. Also a special thank you to all of the physical therapists that worked with him. He truly enjoyed going.

A very special thank you to his granddaughter, Shannon, who went above and beyond to ensure that he had everything he needed.
