Dominic Joseph Sarvello

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, MI- Dominic Joseph Sarvello entered eternal life on May 6, 2025.

He was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Marquette on August 5, 1941. After spending his childhood in Ishpeming, he graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1964 where he played football.

After college, Dominic and his wife, Carol, moved to Bellevue then to Niles. In both places, Dominic taught and coached football. Dominic and Carol returned to Marquette to raise their family before moving to the Detroit area in 1986 when Dominic accepted a position with The American Heart Association.

Dominic was a devoted family man taking great pride in supporting his children in school and athletics. He would travel across the state to watch family members compete in various sports. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether hunting with his son, David, fishing at Deep Creek Lake, or playing golf. A loyal Hematite, Dominic played a pivotal role in establishing an academic scholarship at Ishpeming High School in the name of the Levine-Sarvello Foundation to assist first year college students. Dominic would make a point of watching high school sports at every opportunity. He especially took great pleasure in supporting the endeavors of his grandchildren.

Dominic found meaningful purpose working with his friends at the Exchange Club. He was also dedicated to the students, faculty, and staff of the Hanley International Academy in Hamtramck, where he worked for 14 years, only recently ‘retiring’.

Dominic is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Carol (Levine); his children David (Kimberly) and Elizabeth (Renato); his grandchildren Dominic Jamett (Emily), Mallory Jamett (Hans Felten), Max, and Olivia; his three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Kathy Kemp (Gary) and Brunetta Heilmann (Robert); his nephews Peter, Matthew, Christopher, and Robert; his niece Rachel; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno Dominic and Edith (Paris), and his sister-in-law Mary Beth Sola.

Everyone who knew Dominic will miss his sense of humor, generosity, and loving spirit. He took a genuine interest in each person he met, and he valued people’s individual stories. His memory is a blessing.

A private memorial service was held on June 28.
