Charles ‘Chuck’ McGee

GREEN BAY, WI-Charles ‘Chuck’ J. McGee,94 passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The son of William F. McGee and Elsie G. Fassbender was born March 18, 1931, in Marquette, Michigan. He graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette, Michigan, in 1948. After graduating, he spent a year in seminary school before serving in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, having served in various locations, including Alaska. He returned to Marquette and attended Northern Michigan University to earn his bachelor’s degree in teaching and later earned his Master’s. On August 2, 1958, he married Mary Lauretta Courtney at St. Peters Cathedral in Marquette, Michigan. The couple celebrated 60 years together raising their family in Marquette, West De Pere, Beaver Dam, back to Marquette, and finally settled in Allouez in 1969.
Chuck retired from the Green Bay School system in 1991 after 22 years as a guidance counselor and shop teacher. His impact extended far beyond the classroom, thanks to his caring and supportive approach to students. He was dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment and was known for his ability to connect with students on a personal level. Chuck’s passion for teaching and mentoring left a lasting impression on colleagues, students, friends and family he guided throughout his life.
Chuck enjoyed woodworking, barbequing, gardening, fishing, golfing, couples bridge club and bowling nights, ice skating, playing cards and having lunch with his buddies. These hobbies reflected his creative spirit and love for the outdoors, and most of all he cherished the time spent with family and friends, sharing stories and laughter. His warm personality and zest for life resonated deeply with everyone he encountered.
He will be deeply missed by his three children: Jim (Nancy) McGee, Appleton; Jean (Tom) Soderberg, Bovey, MN; John (Sandy) McGee, Greendale; nine grandchildren, Lauretta (Ryley), Matthew (Evo Boss), Courtney (Breck), Andrew (Nikki ), Reven, Eric, Jack, Sarah, Kaelin, three great-grandchildren: Nola and James Soderberg, Donnabelle ‘Dolly’ Crowe. He is further survived by loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife: Mary, his father and mother: William and Elsie, his sisters, Mary Ann Horal, Alice Tyler and Patricia Ley, his brothers, Bill McGee and Jim McGee; his brothers-in-law: Paul Horal, Dick Tyler, Joseph Ley and John Courtney; his sisters-in-law: Evelyn McGee, Alice Waco, Ann Courtney and Lori Courtney.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 10:15 A.M. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church 130 St. Matthews Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M with Rev. Bob Kabat officiating. Chuck will be entombed next to Mary at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church Buildings and Grounds or the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Hope Lodge in Minneapolis.
