Brian Peterson

NEGUANEE, MI-Brian A. Peterson, age 77, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away on Monday July 7, 2025 at his home while in the loving care of his family, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Brian was born in Ishpeming on September 2, 1947. He was a graduate of the Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, WI. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He then went on to study at Northern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor of Science in English, before continuing on to receive his Master’s in teaching. Brian worked as a teacher for the Negaunee Public Schools where he retired after 30 years of service in 2000.

Brian enjoyed coaching the debate and forensics teams at Negaunee, woodworking, sailing, travelling, and spending time with his family, grandkids, and friends.

Brian is survived by the true love of his life, his wife of 56 years- Valerie (Moffatt) Peterson, 2 children- Jason (Missy) Peterson, Terra (Jason) Peterson-Langham, 2 siblings- Donald (Caron Christopherson) Peterson, Janice (Paul Herron) Peterson, 5 grandchildren- Hannah and Jakob Peterson, Paselynn, Brylee, and Braelynn Langham, 2 sisters-in-law- Sharon Peterson, and Ginger (Glen) Henson, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents- Warren and Dorothy Peterson, father and mother-in-law- Paul and Shirley Moffat, and brother-in-law- Paul Moffatt Jr.

A celebration of Brian’s life will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Monday July 21, 2025 at the Presque Isle Pavillion where food and refreshments will be served throughout. Military honors will be accorded at 5:30pm by the UP Honor Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation, Cancer Care of Marquette County, Diabetes Foundation, or UP Home Health and Hospice in memory of Brian.

Brian’s family would like to give thanks to all of the UP Home Health and Hospice staff, and special thanks to Paula, Cheryl, Dr. Michael Grossman, and his primary physician Dr. Ryan Brang.
