Thomas Booth

ISHPEMING, MI Thomas Byron Booth, age 78, a longtime resident of Ely Township, passed away peacefully in his sleep and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Tom was born on August 21, 1946, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Betty Jean (Swanson) and Billy Burke Booth. He was a proud graduate of Freeland High School, Class of 1965. Shortly after, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 19, 1966. He served honorably as a crew chief and door gunner on the UH-1F Huey with the 20th Special Operations Squadron, known as the Green Hornets, during the Vietnam War. For his service and bravery, he was awarded numerous distinguished medals. He was honorably discharged on February 18, 1970. In his later years, during retirement, Tom reconnected with his Green Hornet brothers, attending annual reunions in Kokomo, Indiana.
Following his military service, Tom worked as a fleet mechanic with Michigan Bell, from which he eventually retired. A true car enthusiast, he was a proud member of the ‘Pasty Crew Car Club’, where he enjoyed swapping stories, talking shop, and sharing pasties with like-minded friends. He was also a member of the Classic Thunderbird Club International and the Model T Ford Club of America, and the Telephone Pioneers.
Tom’s hobbies were as diverse as they were passionate-through the years he found joy in many things including, antique cars, snowmobiling, sailing, woodworking and building things, beekeeping, maple syrup making, and above all, spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. He loved to make them pancakes and watch them drive go-carts around the trails he made for them. Tom also loved talking with people and sharing stories or laughs with others. He loved God, he loved his family and he loved his country. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years to the day, Andrea J. Booth of Ely Township, whom he married on June 13, 1975, in Cheboygan. He is also survived by their three children: Sarah (Mike) Elliott of Ishpeming, Emily Bennett of Milwaukee, WI, and Clay (Brianna) Booth of Ishpeming; eight grandchildren: Noah Bennett, Isabella, Addison, Eian,and Elissa Elliott, Levi, Ana, and Abby Booth, with another grandchild on the way. Tom also leaves behind three brothers: Robert (Eunice) Booth of Freeland, Dick (Jackie)Booth of Lupton, and Don (Jo) Booth of Bay City, along with many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Rob Booth.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 105 Iroquois St., Negaunee. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Randy Reed. Interment will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the United States Air Force. Pallbearers will be Clay Booth, Mike Elliott, Mike Booth, Brandy Booth, Ben Janofski and Clint Collick.
