Debbie Tasson

ISHPEMING, MI ­ Debbie Lou Tasson, age 69, a resident of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, of natural causes.

Debbie was born in Ishpeming on January 26, 1956, to the late Carol June (Larson) and Michael Joseph Tasson. She graduated from Ishpeming High School with the Class of 1975 and went on to attend Michigan Technological University.

At the time of her passing, Debbie was employed at Great Lakes Recovery Center, where she had worked since 2021. Her earlier career included roles as a principal account clerk at Northern Michigan University. During her time living in Duluth, she also held positions in administrative and financial services.

A woman of deep faith, Debbie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and frequently attended services there.

Debbie will be remembered for her kind spirit, sharp wit, and warm presence. She enjoyed cooking, target shooting, canoeing and camping and was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. Each year, she looked forward to the Blues Festival in Duluth, where she shared her love of music with friends. She was especially proud of her Italian heritage and cherished gathering for meals and conversation. Above all, Debbie shared a special bond with her great-nephews, who brought her immense joy.

Debbie is survived by her sister, Diane Tasson; five brothers: Mike (Neda) Tasson, Steve (Laurie) Tasson, Scott Tasson, Glenn Tasson, and Dennis (Chris Ylitalo) Tasson; nephews: Aaron (Heather) Salo, and their children, Austin and Benjamin; and Jason Salo; niece, Ashley Tasson; as well as many cousins and her uncle Ken (Betty) Larson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kris Salo, her fiance, Merritt Mortensen, and her cherished pets Hepzi and Cocco.

Family and friends are invited to honor Debbie’s life at a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20th at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Fr. Larry Van Damme. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
