David Martin Sweeney

1965 ­ 2024

ALFRED, ME-David Martin Sweeney was born on May 19, 1965, in Marquette, Michigan, and passed away on November 30, 2024, in Alfred, Maine. He entered hospice care and died at the home of a long-time friend, surrounded by love and comfort after a courageous battle with a serious heart condition. Known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit, David was a beloved friend and community member who dedicated his life to helping others.

After completing high school in Marquette, David moved to Maine to apprentice with his uncle in the plumbing business. However, his passion for the outdoors led him to establish his own landscaping business in Sanford, Maine. David’s commitment to his clients and his love for beautifying their gardens remained steadfast, even as he faced the challenges of his illness.

David’s compassion extended beyond his professional life. He was a devoted volunteer at the local cat shelter, where he spent countless hours caring for and supporting the cats he adored. His love for cats was well-known, and he often found solace in their company. David also found solace in his relationship with the Lord. On Sunday morning, you could find David attentively listening to the sermons at the church he attended in Sanford, Maine.

In his leisure time, David enjoyed tinkering with antique and classic cars, a hobby which brought him great joy and relaxation. His creativity and problem-solving skills were evident in his work and personal interests, as he continuously sought innovative ways to assist his friends and community.

David’s legacy of service and kindness was celebrated at a memorial service on February 4, 2025, at his home church in Sanford, Maine. He leaves behind a community of friends and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory and the impact he made on their lives.

Preceded in death are his mother Doris Andrea (Buxton) Sweeney and his father Martin Sweeney originally from Marquette Michigan but living in Valley City, North Dakota.

David leaves behind his sister Andrea Sweeney of Fargo, North Dakota. One niece and one nephew along with one great niece and one great nephew. And an uncle Richard Buxton and his family of Casco, Maine.

David Martin Sweeney will be remembered for his generous heart, dedication to service, and enduring love for life. May he rest in peace.
