Rosemary Kutchie

ISHPEMING, MI- Rosemary Kutchie, age 88, of Ishpeming, Michigan passed away peacefully at Marquette County Medical Care Facility with family by her side on February 20, 2025.

A long time Ishpeming resident, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Morin) Peterson.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Clarence Kutchie, sister Sue LeDuc, daughters Susan (Mike) Truscott of Ishpeming and Mary Jo (Rick) Miller of Berlin, WI, grandchildren Austin (Kassie) Miller of Green Bay, WI, Tara (Luke) Truscott of Ishpeming, Tanner (Erin) Truscott, of Plymouth, MI, Bailey (Tyler) Anderson of Eau Claire, WI and Grant (Emily) Miller of Berlin, WI, great-grandchildren Henry Anderson and Griffin Miller, and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul, Donald and Robert Peterson, and sister Irene Eskela.

Rosemary graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1954 and from Northern Michigan University in 1958, earning her teaching degree in Home Economics and English. She married the love of her life, Jim Kutchie, on December 26, 1960. For several years, she taught in Champion, Michigan until she started a family. Rosemary enjoyed raising her girls, and as they got older went back to teaching as a substitute teacher in the Ishpeming School District. Rosemary flourished and enjoyed her students, staff and coworkers, forming lasting treasured friendships. Her kindness, hard work, and love of teaching and learning made her one of the most sought-after substitutes.

After retirement, Rosemary and Jim cherished time with family, grandchildren and friends. They were always excited to attend their grandchildren’s activities. They liked to read, play cards and go on long walks with their grand-dog. ‘Nana’ was adored by all her grandchildren. They truly were the love of her life and she was so very proud of each of them.

She will be remembered for her delicious tarts shared at special family gatherings, as well as her famous Christmas cookies. Her house was always very neat and tidy. Her work ethic, impeccable attention to detail, and love beyond measure will be treasured forever.

A service will be held for Rosemary at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 325 South Pine Street, Ishpeming, Michigan on Saturday, March 8, 2025. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Larry Van Damme as celebrant. A luncheon will follow at K/D Hall.
