James ‘Jim’ Casey

MUNISING, MI-James ‘Jim’ Gerald Casey, age 79, of Munising, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, April 26, 2025, at his home under the loving care of his wife and North Woods Hospice following a lengthy illness.

Born on Christmas Eve in 1945 to Gerald and Catherine (Stimac) Casey, Jim was a gift to all who knew him. He grew up in Munising, attended Wm. G. Mather High School, and went on to serve his country with pride. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Jim dedicated six years of active duty followed by fourteen years in the Army National Guard. His commitment to service was a cornerstone of his life, and his deep sense of duty extended into everything he did.

Jim built a fulfilling career at Kimberly Clark and later retired from Neenah Paper in 2009, where he worked as a turbine operator. Known for his exceptional work ethic, Jim had an eye for detail and was meticulous in every project he tackled-whether at work or around the house. There was little he couldn’t fix or build with his hands.

On July 26, 2002, Jim married the love of his life, Deby Karr. They spent their years side by side, embracing life’s simple joys with love, laughter, and loyal companionship. In his earlier years, Jim found joy in the outdoors-fishing and deer hunting were among his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed quiet evenings at home, relaxing and watching his favorite television shows.

Jim’s greatest pride was in those he loved. He is survived by his loving wife, Deby Casey; his sons Jamie Casey and James Casey; stepsons Gregg (Phyllis) Murk and Justin Murk; stepdaughters Misty (Gary) Gurski and Erin (Jake) Wallace; and numerous grandchildren. Nephews Rick and Tom Stephens, Niece Kathy Anthony, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Catherine Casey; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and George Stephens; his nephew Patrick Stephens; and his niece Mary Doolittle.

Jim’s legacy of service, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Private services with military honors will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
