Gregory Hintsala

HANES CITY, FL – Gregory Paul (Greg/ Goober) Hintsala, 68, passed away at home, surrounded by family on February 6th, 2025 in Haines City, FL following a long illness.
He was born April 12th, 1956 in Marquette, MI to Paul and Beverly (Lyyski) Hintsala.
His memory lives on with his wife of 44 years Elizabeth (Beth), children Lauren (Bob) Boivin, Steven (Erin) Hintsala, Andrea Hodgins, and Sebastian (Rose) Serino; grandchildren Gabriel, Alora, and Ezra Boivin; Mason, Avery, and Beckett Hintsala; Isabelle, and Noelle Hodgins; brother Lowell (Lynn) Hintsala; sister Roxanne (Bob) Sullivant. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
After his graduation from Republic – Michigamme High School in 1974 Greg went to work at Cleveland Cliffs and met his future wife, Beth, in 1975. Greg and Beth married in 1981 and had four children. After working at the Republic, Brownstone, Tilden, and Empire mines, he retired in 2016, eventually relocating to Haines City to escape UP winters.
An avid outdoorsman, Greg enjoyed trapping with his brother Chuck, hunting, spending time at his camp with his brother Lowell and son Steven, and cutting bows every fall with his children. He played on many local men’s pool leagues and made a great number of friends throughout the years. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, and played on many local softball teams including Rookies, Robin’s Nest, Grand Slam, and his first team, the Merchants, with whom he won first place in both wins and beer drinking in a single tournament. Greg was exceptionally proud to have coached his son Steven’s baseball teams throughout his youth, winning many championships. Regardless of his busy schedule, his children always knew they could look into the stands at any of their events and find him in the crowd, smiling with adoration. Greg was a devoted husband who spoiled his wife, a supportive father, and a cherished papa. He was a man known for his hard work, sense of humor, and deep love for his family. He will be forever loved and very deeply missed.
Greg was preceded in death by his father Paul, mother Beverly, and his brother Chuck.
A celebration of life will be held July 12th from 2-5 PM at Red Rock Lanes in Ishpeming, MI.
