Evelyn Hendrickson
TRENARY, MI-Evelyn Mae ‘Evie’ Hendrickson, age 87 of Trenary, passed away on May 21, 2025 at the MediLodge of Munising.
She was a beloved sister, mother, and friend, whose kindness and devotion to her community will be dearly missed.
Born on February 2, 1938, in the family sauna in Trenary, a daughter of Isaac and Vieno (Maki) Hendrickson, Evie graduated from Trenary High School with the Class of 1956. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Edward Hendrickson, and together they raised their family in Trenary, the place she proudly called home throughout her life.
Evie worked for six years at the Trenary Co-Op Store before beginning a long and fulfilling career as a teacher’s aide for the Mathias Township School System, where she touched the lives of countless children over her 28 years of service. She retired in 2000.
Outside of work, Evie found great joy in the simple and beautiful things in life-bird watching, flower gardening, and collecting dolls. Throughout her life, Evie enjoyed raising chickens, beginning at age two, and especially enjoyed giving away the eggs to family and friends. She was known for her nurturing spirit and her deep commitment to the community. A dedicated volunteer, she supported local youth through the 4-H program and played a vital role in the Trenary Community Fire Hall. Her love for her hometown was evident in the cheerful flower pots she placed throughout Trenary every year, brightening the streets with color and care.
Evie is survived by her son, Ricky (Joan) Hendrickson of Trenary; her sisters, Elaine Derocher, Edna Meloni, Karen (Paul) LeGrand, and Lorraine (Bill) Hirn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Edward.
