David Raikko

Born on January 20, 1951, the son of Harold and Grace (Reichel) Raikko, David was raised in Marquette and graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1969. Following graduation, he proudly served in the National Guard and later attended Northern Michigan University. On October 12, 1974, he married Lois Johnson, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.

David worked a variety of jobs before finding his career in the skilled trades. He spent 33 years at Northern Michigan University as a boiler operator, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic, retiring in 2015.

Outside of work, David was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at camp. He found joy in tending to his vegetable garden and cherished every moment spent with his family. Known for his quick wit and gift for storytelling, David had a kind heart and a great sense of humor that brought laughter and warmth to those around him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Lois; his sons, Eric Raikko (Michaella Jensen) of New Castle, Pennsylvania and Aaron (Blythe) Raikko of Marquette; and his cherished grandchildren, Landon, Sam, Annabella, Addison, and Avalyn. He also leaves behind nieces, Barb (Rick) Cormier, Becky (James) Harris, Jodi Raikko, and Tami (Hill), and nephew, Tony (Lesa) Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold Raikko; his aunt, Marie Dennett and his uncle, Charlie Reichel.

Friends may call at the Canale Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Saturday, June 7th, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. Deacon Don Thoren will officiate. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
