Barbara Johnson

She was born June 24, 1937, in McMillan, MI, the only daughter of Clifford and Velma (Hollingshead) French.

Barbara was a 1960 graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at the former St. Luke’s Hospital, Marquette General Hospital and the State of Michigan Department of Veterans Affairs until her retirement in 1995.

In retirement, Barbara enjoyed traveling the country to visit her children and grandchildren even attending her grandson’s graduation in 2024 in Wilmington, NC, spending winters in Florida with her husband, Glenn, and playing card games with her friends. She was a dedicated grandma who enjoyed basket weaving, canning, cooking and baking.

Barbara was a member of Marquette Gospel Tabernacle and Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Dana Roe of Marquette, Tim (Erica Jones) Johnson of Seabeck, WA, Karyn Johnson of Marquette and Douglas Johnson of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Darryn (Erin Sikkema) Adams, Rebecca Josey, Melanie, Rowan, August and Lenox Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Nash Adams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Johnson, whom she married in 1960; and siblings, Clifford and Michael French.

Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care they provided. They would also like to mention Barbara’s special friends, Dennis and Lynn Wiertella and Joan Dekeyser for their unconditional support.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 10 to 11 am at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services. A funeral service will be held at 11 am in the funeral home with Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment will take place in Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery. The Upper Peninsula Nurses Honor Guard will provide honors.
