Margaret Sorelle
SANDS TWP, MI- Margaret Elizabeth Sorelle, 86, and longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on March 26, 2025 while in the care of her loving family and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
Margaret was born July 13, 1938 in Ishpeming to Thomas and Beaulah (Roberts) Oates and attended Negaunee Schools. She was self-employed as a housekeeper at the Breitung Hotel in Negaunee and the Langdon Family Greenhouse in Chassell.
Mrs. Sorelle was a life member of the Negaunee VFW Auxiliary and also belonged to the Negaunee Eagles Auxiliary Club where she was a member for 38 years. She enjoyed making pasties, working Sunday breakfasts and volunteering many hours for various activities at the Eagles Club in Negaunee. While President of R.E.A.C., her charity was the Negaunee Senior Center and she enjoyed making money for them. Her daily phone calls from family was the highlight of her day along with visits from family and friends. Margaret also enjoyed working with flowers, her bird feeders, baking, and gardening.
Surviving are her daughters: Debra Widuch of Broken Arrow, OK and Patricia (Darryl) Sandvig of Sands Township; son, Terry (Kathryn) Langdon, Jr. of Syracuse, NY; brother, Thomas (Beverly) Oates of Ishpeming; sister, Sharon Connors of Negaunee; grandchildren: Nicole (Widuch) Holmes, Walter Widuch, IV, Heather Pilto, Christina York, and Terry J.W. Langdon III; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; Maisie James.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband, Joseph Russell Sorelle, one brother: Norman Oates, and sister Mary Talley.
During her time here, she touched the lives of so many; she will be missed by all and especially her famous potato salad.
A Celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19th at the Negaunee Eagles Club at 4:00 PM. The family thanks Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice for the wonderful care provided.
