Lawrence Kytasaari
GWINN, MI-Lawrence K. “Larry” Kytasaari, 83 of Gwinn, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at his home while under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Larry was born October 20, 1941 in Marquette, MI to William J. Kytosaari and Isabelle A. (Bellmore) Kytosaari. He grew up in the Stoneville Location. He was a member of the 1959 Class of National Mine High School.
He married his high school sweetheart Louise Tregoning on September 10, 1960 in Waukegan, Illinois.
Larry started his life-long career in the Industrial Coatings field in 1960 working for Midland Division of Dexter Corporation. While working full time he pursued and received his BS in Business Management from Lake Forest School of Management in Lake Forest, IL. He continued his education at Lake Forest and received his MBA in 1977.
In 1978 Larry and his family moved to Kansas City, MO. Serving as the Vice President of Operations for the TNEMEC Company Inc. he remained in this position until 1994. He then became the Director of Operations for Lily Industries. In 2005, Larry started his own consulting company OEM where he helped guide and mentor other coating manufacturers to reach their potential.
Retiring in 2007 he and Louise moved from Kansas City to Gwinn, MI. where he embraced retirement changing his focus to his hobbies that included creating and maintaining beautiful landscaping, fishing on Crooked Lake, building beautiful woodworking crafts, researching his family genealogy and Finnish Heritage. He enjoyed traveling, spending winters on the beach, taking saunas, teaching and playing cribbage.
Larry’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife Louise of Gwinn; his children, Amy (Mark) Berthold of Tampa, FL, John (Kim) Kytasaari of Liberty, MO, Jim (Peggy Mihoover) Topeka, KS, Tricia (Scott) McCullough of Kansas City, MO.; Grandchildren Tylor (Robin) Kytasaari, Mitchell (Allison) Kytasaari, Kyle (Cheri) Berthold, William Kytasaari, Molly Berthold, Connor McCullough, Mackenzie Kytasaari; great-grandchildren Keagan, Kaylee and Lily Kytasaari, Crawford and Dylann Berthold ; his three sisters Connie(Leon) Porter, Patricia (Paul) Makela and Cynthia (Earl) Caswell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded on death by his parents William and Isabelle Kytosaari, infant sisters Sharon and Suzanne, Elaine Glavich, and brothers William Kytosaari and Ronald Kytasaari.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held in the summer of 2025
