Sally Mitchell

DENTON, TX- Sally Ann Mitchell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Sally was born on April 9, 1936, to Toivo and Jennie Ihamaki of Forsyth, Michigan. She graduated from Negaunee High School in 1954. After High School, she attended Augustana Hospital Nursing School, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse.

Sally married her one true love, Bruce Paul Mitchell (Mitch) of Ishpeming, Michigan. They enjoyed a beautiful and fun-filled life together. They were married for 58 years. Their journey took them from the U.P. of Michigan to Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Missouri. After 7 years of traveling in their RV, they ultimately chose Athens, Texas, to live near family for the remainder of their lives. A devout Christian, Sally’s faith supported and guided her after Mitch’s passing in 2015. We find solace in their reunion after almost a decade apart.

Sally was preceded in death by her father, Toivo Ihamaki, her mother, Jennie Ihamaki (Martonen), her sister, Kathy Bieniek, and her husband, Bruce P. Mitchell.

Sally is survived by her brother Keith Ihamaki of Negaunee, Michigan, daughter Faith (Morris) McDaniel of Galveston, TX., and son Bruce (Kim) Mitchell of Denton, TX. “Lolly” is also survived by grandchildren Mitchell McDaniel (Erika), Marissa Fann (Ben), Tayler Gumble (Monty), and Brendan Mitchell and great-grandchildren Ruth and Frank Fann.

Her unique spirit will live on in their hearts and all those fortunate to have known her.
