Marion Reidy
RIVERWOODS, IL — Marion (Mason) Reidy, 90 years old, died peacefully in her sleep, in the early morning of January 8, 2025.
Daughter of Henry T. Mason and Jennie (Hansen) Mason. She leaves behind many dear friends, cousins, nieces and nephews and her children Michael (Trish) Reidy, Pamela McLaughlin, Kerry (Rob) Cedergren, Matt (Tammy) Reidy, and Sean (Vicki) Reidy, and her grandchildren, Emma, Lennon, Noah, Ava, Morgan, Blake, Cameron, Garrett, Alexandria, Krysta and Keegan. She will shower grandchildren Evan and Ella with hugs and kisses on the other side.
Marion grew up in Ishpeming, MI where she had a most wonderful childhood. Growing up in a different time, but could never have been happier with all her friends and family, the thriving downtown and the beautiful outdoors.
After graduating from Ishpeming High School in 1952, she attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN and graduated in 1956 with her nursing degree.
Marion moved to Chicago for her first nursing job at the Westside, VA Hospital, married and moved to Schaumburg, IL where she raised her 5 children. She was active in local organizations, including the Women’s Club of Schaumburg and a local nursing organization that ran the Thrift Shop – to raise money for community health needs.
She later re-entered the nursing workforce, caring for children and individuals with profound disabilities and special care needs at Marklund Children’s Home in Bloomingdale, IL, and she finished her nursing career at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL as an ICU nurse. While there she joined the newly formed Northwest Chicago area chapter of the AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses) and was an active member for many years. Marion loved to travel and has been all over the world. She was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan and she loved animals, reading her books and newspaper, listening to music and playing cards.
Our beautiful mom was strong, independent and loving, and cared deeply about all people. You could see this kindness in the way she cared for her patients and how she helped anyone or anything that she saw needed help. She once performed successful CPR on a squirrel who had fallen out of a tree. Chest compressions only. Seriously. She treated everyone equally, with respect and dignity, and then sprinkled in a bit of her humor for a laugh or a smile. She was a wonderful human being. She loved her family dearly and we will miss her with all our hearts.
We thank the staff at Elevate Care in Riverwoods and Moments Hospice for all of their love and care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Ishpeming Historical Society or the John Voelker Foundation. You can also view more information at the Burnette-Dane funeral home website.
