Michael Kurian

MARQUETTE, MI – Michael “Mike” Kurian, age 79, took his last breath at his winter residence in Mesa, Arizona, on December 1, 2024.

Born in Marquette on August 8, 1945, to George Kurian and Jean (Rock) Kurian, he was a lifelong area resident.

Mike attended John D. Pierce School and graduated from Graveraet High School, Class of 1963. In his lifetime he held several positions including janitorial duties with the Marquette public schools, prison guard at the Marquette Branch Prison, and retiring from Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company after 30 plus years of service.

Mike’s true passion was his collector cars and his car clubs where he had many friends and acquaintances. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was quick with teasing or a joke.

Mike is survived by the love of his life for 59 years, Dawna (Hansen) Kurian, known affectionately to him as “Babe”. Also surviving are his daughters, Kim and Joe Tull and their children Tyler, Ashley and Wyatt (Ashley) Tull. Micki and Tim Truscott and their children Whitney and Cami (Ben Ford) Truscott. Four great-grandsons, Kyle Tull, Elijah Ford, Riley David, and Kade Tull, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul.

Honoring Mike’s wishes a private family celebration will be held in the spring.
