Steven LeClair

ELY TWP, MI- Steven S. “Buns” LeClair, 78, Ely Township resident passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at UP Health System Marquette.

Steven was born in Marquette, Michigan on October 23, 1946, a son of the late Marjorie Helen (Sleeman) and Ralph Clarence LeClair. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1966 and attended MTU in the Forestry Program in Alberta, MI. He was drafted into the US Army in 1967.

Steven worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 30 years, began his career underground at the Mather B Mine and retired as a plant repairman from the Empire Mine.

Steven was a member and Sergeant at Arms at the American Legion Greenwood Post #114, and a member of the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed shooting with his friends. He was an outdoor enthusiast, who liked hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and bird watching in his favorite Stormy Kromers. Steven was an avid reader and loved collecting books about American and local history. He also had a special place in his heart for watching Harry Potter with his cat Maddie Mae. Most importantly he loved his grandchildren.

Steven is survived by his wife Joan (Michaud) LeClair, whom he married on February 16, 1974, two children; Jason (Brooke) LeClair and Jennifer (Justin) Koski, a sister Mary (Casey) Smith, a brother Tom Laitinen, grandchildren; Samuel and William LeClair, Tyler, Zackary, Lilian, and Alison Erdman, Preston and Cole Koski, a brother-in-law John Michaud, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Marjorie LeClair, a sister Carole Leathom, brothers; Mark, Gary, and Greg “Goober” LeClair, stepbrothers; Duane, Dennis, Douglas, and Dale Potila, in laws: Jim and Elvie Michaud, brother-in-law Jim Michaud, and sister-in-law Tootie Enquist.

A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the American Legion Greenwood Post #114, 3050 Co. Rd. 496. The UP-Funeral Honors Team and American Legion will conduct Military Honors at 2:00 pm.
