MARQUETTE TWP, MI – Lois May Salani, age 91, of Marquette Township, passed away October 16, 2024, under the care of UP Home Health and Hospice and the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, where she resided for the past ten months.

Born December 16, 1932, in Saginaw, a daughter of Harry J. Westover and Elsie G. (Westover) Samuelson, Lois spent her early years in Saginaw until her parents moved to Little Lake when she was in the fifth grade. She graduated from Gwinn High School and continued her education at Northern Michigan University where she received her Licensed Practical Nurse certification. For many years, Lois was employed at Bell Memorial Hospital, the practices of Doctors Tobin and Narotzky, and Marquette General Hospital from where she retired in the mid-90s. It was in the early 80’s, while serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that Lois experienced a profound spiritual impact on her life. In April 2002, Lois was united in marriage to Adorno “Babe” Salani, and brought him love, companionship, and a new adventure in family. When he preceded her in death in 2012, it was Lois who cared and nursed him with love and dignity.

Lois is survived by her children, Susan L. Sundblad of Marquette, John W. (Leslie Berg) Sundblad and his son, Edward J. Sundblad of Crown Point, IN, and Paul D. Sundblad of Helena, MT; her grandchildren, Tina M. (Pete) DeBoer, Appleton, WI and Kathryn L. Baxter and her children, Violet M. and Ivy L. Chaltry of Ishpeming. She is survived by her nephew, Mickey P. (Laura Gifford) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO; and her good friend, Victoria Dinkin of Marquette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adorno A. “Babe” Salani; her daughter, Laurel A. (Sundblad) Thompson; her sisters, Joyce Westover and Shirley A. (Westover) Mitchell; her parents and step-father, John H. (Jack) Samuelson.
