Estella Jarvi

HUMBOLDT TWP., MI – Humboldt Twp., MI – Maria Estella Jarvi, age 104, a lifelong resident of Humboldt Twp., other than the past six years which were spent at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Estella was born in Humboldt Twp., on April 28, 1920, a daughter of the late Emilia (Koski) and Gerald Oja and attended the Humboldt School. Upon her marriage to Eino M. Jarvi, Estella became a homemaker and attended to her growing family’s needs. In addition to caring for her children, Estella did childcare for area families, and truly loved children. Estella was instrumental in the building of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion, where she had been active with many church activities including quilting and serving in the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was currently a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic.

Estella is survived by three daughters, Joan Grimm, of Portland, OR, Julie E. (Don) Anderson and Jacqueline (David) Helwig both of Republic, two sons, Michael (Donna) Jarvi of Lake Bluff, IL and Jonathon (Robin) Jarvi of Republic, son-in-law, Karl Laaninen of Humboldt, 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Estella was preceded in death by her husband Eino M. Jarvi in 1979, two daughters, Geraldine (Tom) McKenzie and Maria Laaninen, a stillborn son, William Jarvi, sons-in-law, Jeff Grimm and Jon Mattila, grandson, Tom McKenzie, and her 8 siblings.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:30am – 12:00pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic where a Memorial Service will follow at 12:00pm with the Rev. Alex Ross officiating. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens. A luncheon will follow the services in the church basement.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Poplar St., Republic, MI 49879 in Estella’s memory.

The family would like to profoundly thank the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility staff for their comfort and care of Estella these past six years, you have truly become family to us.
