NEGAUNEE TWP, MI – Christine Belkowski, age 81, of Negaunee Township, entered eternal life Monday, October 14, 2024, at Mill Creek Assisted Living Facility.
Born June 24, 1943, in Detroit, a daughter of Chester and Irene (Piechocinski) Kazmierczak, Christine was raised in Detroit, where she graduated from the Laura Osborne High School. She continued her education at Wayne State University, pursuing a degree in education, and subsequently earning her masters degree. Following graduation, she began a long teaching career, first at Denby High School in Detroit and later at West Dearborn High School, and finally with Utica Community Schools where she ultimately retired in 1994 as Assistant Principal at Davis Junior High School. Her retirement years were filled with wintering in Bullhead City, Arizona, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Her greatest joy and fulfillment came with her family and especially her grandchildren. Outside of teaching, the grandchildren were the center of her life.
Christine is survived by her husband, George Belkowski, Sr., of Negaunee Township, whom she married November 5, 1966; her sons, George (Theresa) Belkowski, Jr. of Marquette and Jeffrey (Laura) Belkowski of Bloomington IL; seven grandchildren, Clare, Kyle, Beau, Tessa, Shayla, Brian and Lucas Belkowski; her two sisters, Caroline Myshock of Port Huron and Camille (David) Grabb of Goodyear, AZ; a brother, Theodore (Sue) Kazmierczak of Troy; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Stanley Myshock.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Paul Catholic Church in Negaunee on Saturday, November 2, beginning at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon with Rev. Larry Van Damme, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the parish fellowship hall. Interment will be made in the Negaunee Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living and UP Home Health and Hospice for their care and kindness.
