Marlene McCullah

MARQUETTE – Marlene “Toby” Morais McCullah, 86, of Marquette, peacefully passed away Monday morning, September 9, 2024, at Norlite Nursing Center.

She was born in Escanaba on July 2, 1938, a daughter of Harvey and Crystal (Siegler) Robinette. Marlene was proudly raised in Big Bay until her family moved to Marquette following her graduation from the eighth grade. She continued her education at Bishop Baraga High School, graduating in 1956.

Shortly after graduating, Marlene married Elmer “Gus” Morais. The couple made their home in Marquette where they raised a daughter, Diane Marie. While raising her daughter, Marlene was a wife and homemaker, only entering the workforce once Diane was older. Marlene retired from Pathways where she handled patient accounts.

Marlene was a warm, sociable, and kind-hearted woman who touched the lives of many. For the past eight years, her cheerful greetings and vibrant personality were a staple at Norlite Nursing Center. Marlene thrived in the company of others, finding joy in dancing and listening to good music. Her greatest delight came from visits from her great-grandsons, sharing treats and watching them play. She lived her life with gratitude, cherishing her family and many friendships. Marlene was a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Marlene’s family would like to thank the staff of Norlite Nursing Center and UP Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

Marlene is survived by her grandson, Rob (Betsy) Morais of Marquette; great-grandsons, Nolan, Mason and Emmet Morais; her sister, Leona “Pit” (Dale) Phelps of Sparta, IL; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her first husband, Gus; her daughter, Diane; and second husband, John McCullah.
