Mable ‘Skip’ Ogle
CHOCOLAY TWP, MI – Mabel D. “Skip” Ogle, age 94, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024, in the loving, comforting care of her family and the caring staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living Facility.
Skip was born February 9, 1930, in Bay City, Michigan, a daughter of Herbert and Clara (Roth) Cataline. Raised in Bay City, she graduated in 1948 from Bay City Central High School and continued her education at Harper Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit earning her certification as a Registered Nurse. She married Richard Ogle and together the couple began their family and made their first home in Bay City. On November 1, 1957, Skip, Richard, and their growing family made the trek north across the Mackinac Bridge, on their way to the Upper Peninsula, settling in Marquette which would become their home and the place of many great adventures. What made this trip memorable was that it was the opening day for traffic to cross the Mackinac Bridge.
A devoted nurse, Skip provided 44 years of dedicated service to her profession and to her fellowman. She began her career at Bay City General Hospital. Locally she was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Marquette General Hospital, completing her dedicated service to our Country’s Veterans at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. While employed with Marquette General Hospital, she was very involved with the paraplegic and quadriplegic programs, and the youth substance abuse program. Additionally, Skip was instrumental in establishing and teaching the first-year nursing course in the student health program at Marquette Senior High School. This program is known today as the Health Occupations Class and for a time she taught Practical Nursing at NMU.
Skip loved her career and found it rewarding. She desired to share her knowledge and experience with others, most recently sharing nursing stories with the staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living.
In her leisure time, Skip enjoyed creating many treasured knitted sweaters and blankets, quilts, craft items, spending time in her flower gardens, and sharing this knowledge with her family. She had an exceptional green thumb! During her retirement years, she also enjoyed wintering in Texas and participating in many of the local walks.
A devoted Mother, Mother-in-law, Granny and Great-Granny/Grandy, Skip is survived by her five children, Tom (Cindy) Ogle of Marquette, Beth (Ken) Philpot of Reno, NV, Kim (Ronald) DeMarse of Marquette, Edward “Snuffy” (Annalisa) Ogle of Marquette, and Dean (Cynthia) Ogle of Marquette; ten grandchildren, Kelly (Jon) Trasti, Kerry (John) Schulz, Melissa DeMarse, Neal (Lori) St. Onge, Maisie (Cory) Rodgers, Chiara Ogle, Gabriel (Alizabeth) Ogle, Brandon (Krissy) Ogle, Shanna Ogle, Drew (Lauren) Ogle; seventeen great-grandchildren; her sister, Beverly Meagher; her two brothers, Robert and Richard Cataline; numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.
