Anthony Chapman

MARQUETTE, MI- Anthony P. “Tony” Chapman, 74, of Marquette, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Tony was born on March 31, 1950 in Ishpeming, MI to Sidney R. and Ruth M. (Flath) Chapman. He attended Ishpeming High School and at age 17, joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War.

Tony married Rhonda Hill in 1976 in Negaunee, MI. They shared a beautiful family life of 26 years before she passed. He met Sharon Dale in the fall of 2002 and they spent 22 wonderful years together.

Tony worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 30 years before his retirement. He and Sharon enjoyed snowbirding in Arizona for the last 21 years. Tony’s best characteristics were his work ethic, his commitment to his family, and his willingness to help those he loved. Tony had countless hobbies throughout his life. In his earlier years, he enjoyed his bowling league, coaching many of his son’s sports teams, and building model train cities. He loved camping, boating, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed the Chicago Bears and the University of Michigan, “Go Blue!.” Tony absolutely loved being outdoors. During his retirement years, he spent many days golfing, riding his motorcycle, and going for walks. He enjoyed keeping up his beautiful flower gardens and visiting on his patio. Tony was known for making jokes and pulling pranks. He was also the quality taste-tester for all of Sharon’s homemade desserts, which he loved. Most of all, Tony was a family man and cherished his time with his family, kids, and especially, his grandchildren.

Tony is survived by his partner, Sharon Dale of Marquette; three children, Jennifer White of Suisun City, CA, Elizabeth (Eddie) Clements of MacDill Air Force Base, FL and Keith Chapman of Ann Arbor, MI; his best beloved fur companion, Nikko; grandchildren, Israel (Bailey) White, Jr., Isabelle White, Eddie Clements IV, Eva Clements, Abram Clements, Aria Clements, Landon Chapman, Nik Chapman, Claire Chapman, Colin Chapman, Brielle Chapman, Daniel Dale, Nathan Dale and Evelyn Dale; Sharon’s children, Corey (Stasi) Dale of Colorado City, CO and Kevin Dale of Marquette; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Ruth Chapman, his wife, Rhonda Chapman, and two brothers, Robert and George Chapman.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home in Marquette starting at 10 a.m. A memorial service will take place in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chad Mager officiating. Military honors will be provided. Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
