Madeleine Alderson
MARQUETTE, MI- Madeleine Joy Prout Alderson, 90, of Marquette, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Medilodge of Munising.
She was born April 14, 1934, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, a daughter of the late Charles and Ellen (Gonyon) Prout.
Madeleine attended Brescia Hall University of Western Ontario. She earned a Master’s degree from NMU.
She worked in civil service in recreation in France, Okinawa, Korea and at KI Sawyer until 1993. She also taught in the English Department at NMU for 12 years.
Madeleine married James Richard Alderson in Phoenix, Arizona on January 1, 1980.
She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and enjoyed reading, writing and traveling.
She is survived by three children, Annette (Delbert) Pierce of Poplar Bluff, MO, Tammy Jacobs of Dallas, TX and Scott (Louise) Alderson of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; a niece, Laurie Downs of Boise, ID; and nephews, Christopher Prout of Corpus Christi, TX, Andrew Prout of Kalamazoo, MI and several other nieces & nephews; She is also survived by two very close friends of the family, Bobbie Jo Black-Swick of Marquette and Margaret Francel of Wichita, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Terry & Calvin Prout.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11 am with Rev. Brandon Oman. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass in the Bishop’s Room at the church. The Mass will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://my.gather.app/remember/madeleine-prout-alderson. Burial will be held at the Epoufette Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Room at the Inn or Masses for the repose of Madeleine’s soul.
