Greg Keskitalo

MARQUETTE MI- Greg Alan Keskitalo, age 66 of Marquette, cherished brother, uncle, and friend, passed away August 14, 2024, at Trillium House in Marquette, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 26, 1958, in Ishpeming, Michigan, the son of Erland and Esther (Kaleva) Keskitalo, Greg’s life was a testament to strength, independence, and kindness. He was a man who faced life’s challenges with unwavering determination and a heart full of generosity.

Raised in Republic, Michigan, Greg graduated from Republic Michigamme High School in 1976. After high school, Greg stepped into his father’s shoes, taking over the family business. He became the proud owner of King Koin Laundromat, pouring his energy and passion into the enterprise until his retirement in December 2023. Greg’s dedication to his work was evident to all who knew him, and his hardworking nature was matched only by his kindness to those around him.

Greg’s love for life extended beyond his business. He found joy in the simple pleasures, like riding his motorcycle through the scenic routes of Michigan, feeling the freedom of the open road. His close friends were a source of laughter and support, and he cherished the moments spent in their company. Greg’s independence was a defining trait, but it was his kind nature that truly set him apart.

Greg is survived by his loving siblings, Derek (Ingrid) Keskitalo of Alsip, Illinois, Lorna (Don) Leaf of Negaunee, Michigan, and Susan (Mike) VanderBand of Jenison, Michigan. He was a beloved uncle to his nieces Jill, Erin, and Aubrey, and nephews Sam and Rob. His extended family included his aunt Gladys Kane, uncle Glenn (Carol) Johnson, and several cousins, among whom Mike Garbukas held a special place for his significant support to Greg.

Preceding Greg in death were his parents and a special cousin, Steve Garbukas. Their memories remained a guiding light in his life, and their influence was evident in the love and care he showed to others.

Those who knew Greg will remember him as a kind soul, a man whose actions spoke louder than words. His presence was a comfort, his laughter a joy, and his resilience an inspiration. Greg’s life was a reflection of the values he held dear: hard work, commitment, and compassion.

As we bid farewell to Greg Alan Keskitalo, we take solace in knowing that his legacy will live on through the lives he touched. His journey was one of dignity and grace, and he faced his final battle with the same courage that characterized his entire life.
