David G. Greenlee

CHOCOLAY TWP, MI — David George Greenlee, age 71, of Chocolay Township, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at home, in the loving care of his family and caregiver, Brandon White.

Born on April 29, 1953, in Glendale, California, the son of Dolford and Irean (Ewers) Greenlee, David’s early years were spent in the sunny climes of the West Coast before his family moved to Troy, Michigan, where he would grow up and eventually make a significant impact on his community.

A proud graduate of Troy High School’s class of 1971, David’s passion for automobiles led him to a vocational school where he learned his skills and earned his ASE Certification. His expertise and dedication to his craft were evident to all who knew him, and it wasn’t long before he began a fulfilling career with General Motors at Chrysler. As an automotive mechanic, David’s hands were skilled, and his work ethic was unmatched, contributing to the company until his well-deserved retirement in 2015.

David’s love for cars went beyond the garage; he took immense pride in his 1987 Pontiac Firebird Formula, a vehicle that was not just a mode of transport but a symbol of his passion and precision. His interests also included watching NASCAR and indulging in the classic tales of the Old West through his favorite westerns. However, it was the time spent with his family that David treasured most. His daughter, Susan, was the light of his life, and the car rides they shared were moments of pure joy and connection.

Those who knew David would describe him as loving, selfless, and kind. He was a man who embodied generosity, often going out of his way to help others, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back. His caring nature and passionate spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

David is survived by his children, Susan Soucy and David Greenlee. He was a grandfather to Katelyn and Lauren Greenlee. His legacy will also live on through several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Teddy Bear.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; his sister, Diane Greenlee;, and his brother, Darryl Greenlee. Their reunion in the beyond is a comforting thought for those who grieve his passing.

David George Greenlee’s life was a testament to the power of love, the importance of family, and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take solace in the memories he leaves behind and the indelible mark he has left on our hearts. Honoring David’s request private family services will be held.
