Alan Reynolds

NEGAUNEE, MI – Alan J. “Al” Reynolds, 82, of Negaunee, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Al was born January 31, 1942 in Marquette, MI to Lowell J. and Chrissie M. (Scarffe) Reynolds. He was a 1960 graduate of John D. Pierce High School and a lifelong area resident.

Al was the produce Manager at Red Owl in Marquette for nearly 30 years until the store closed in 1991. He made lasting friendships with many of his fellow employees and enjoyed socializing with customers and vendors alike. Afterwards, Al became a produce merchandiser, traveling around the Upper Peninsula and parts of Wisconsin as a produce salesman, retiring in 2003.

After his retirement, Al became a very active member of the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning. He especially enjoyed leading waterfall hikes in Marquette County as well as trips to Mount Arvon and the Keweenaw with large groups of seniors. He and a group of friends were part of a weekly ‘Lunch Bunch’, an activity he very much missed as his health declined. He was a founding member of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail and devoted countless hours to improving and promoting the trail system over the years. Al also served as the chairperson of the Negaunee Township Planning Commission for nearly 20 years and his expertise and knowledge of the township will be greatly missed.

Al cherished his family and focused all of his energy on building memories for his children. Whether it was traveling around the US in the tent camper, spending weekends snowmobiling at the ‘winter’ camp, or being at Lake Independence with Grandma and Grandpa in the summer, family was always his top priority. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic and gave them the skills they needed to have productive and successful lives. Al was also an incredible problem solver and designed countless tools and machines to make life easier in unique ways.

Al is survived by his three children, Scott (Michelle) Reynolds of Appleton, WI, Todd (Deborah) Reynolds of Seaford, VA and Amy (Steve) Anderson of Negaunee; six grandchildren, John (Casey), Regan (Topher), Shaelin (Logan), Christopher (Christina), Jessica, and Hanna; one great-grandchild, Damien; and two nephews, Ernie and Archie.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Carol Sherbinow; and Ginger, his beloved yellow lab who was his faithful and loyal companion of 14 years. He also leaves behind numerous dear friends who have greatly appreciated his companionship, support, and advice through the years.

Per Al’s wishes, no formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Al’s memory to UPAWS, 815 S. M553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
