Violet Seppanen

MARQUETTE, MI – Violet Seppanen, age 98, went to her heavenly home on July 25, 2024.

Violet Irene (Maki) Seppanen was born on April 16, 1926 in Kipling, Michigan. Her parents were Hilda and Emil Maki. Violet married Donald David Seppanen on May 22, 1948. They had two children, Gary (Glennis) Seppanen, Phoenix, AZ and Donna (John) Fegan, Marquette, MI. She had 4 grandchildren, Gretchen Enrietti, Heidi Viviano, Sienna Fegan, and Matthew Seppanen and five great-grandchildren, Sophia Viviano, Calvin Viviano, Henry Shaw, Frea Seppanen and Ingrid Seppanen.

Violet was a wonderful homemaker and a talented seamstress making most of her own clothes as well as clothes for Don, Gary, Donna, Gretchen, Heidi and Sophia. Violet and Donald were square-dancers as well as round-dancers traveling to many national conventions and hosting many dances in their home. Violet made many square dance outfits for both herself and Donald. Violet and Donald wintered in Florida when Donald retired in 1986. After Donald passed away in 2005 Violet lived full time in Marquette. Her last 6 years were happily spent at Norlite where she made many friends and was loved among the residents and staff. Violet’s family would like to thank the staff at Norlite who made Violet so very happy and gave loving care to her. They would also like to thank Violet’s roommate, Donna Phillips, for her unwavering and loving support of Violet.

Violet was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was involved in different church groups.

Violet’s husband, Donald, brothers Dick Maki, Aino Maki, George Maki and sister, Lily Anderson preceded her in death.

Friends may call at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 31, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
