Janet Louise Crick
Janet Crick
SKANDIA TWP, MI – Janet Louise Crick, age 65, of Skandia Township, entered eternal life Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Norlite Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born August 6, 1958, in Marquette, a daughter of James and Joanne (Sicotte) McMaster, Janet’s childhood years were spent in Beaver Grove. Her family relocated to Carlshend when she was a teenager, and Janet graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1976.
Her first major employment was as a messenger for MFC First National Bank, but her true calling lay in nurturing her family. On November 21, 1981, Janet was united in marriage to Herb Crick in Carlshend. Together, the couple made their home on the North Dukes Road in Skandia Township where they raised their two sons.
Throughout the years, Janet was able to balance her love of being a wife, mother, and homemaker with her employment responsibilities. Janet’s subsequent employments included working at the Metz Bakery (Bunny Bread), the Marquette County Dental Office at K.I. Sawyer, and finally at Northern Michigan University where she began employment in the Financial Aid Office and then transferred to the Student Leader Fellowship Program from where she retired in 2012.
Janet possessed a great smile, radiated a welcoming presence, was selfless, and very social in nature. At home, Janet enjoyed nothing better than being present for her family, and her motherly touches and baking talents were enjoyed by all. She was a mother figure to many of her sons’ friends, while family and friends always enjoyed her hosting events at the family camp at Martin Lake.
She had a great love of the outdoors and was in tune with nature. Her other leisure time activities included a love of flower gardening, creating fairy gardens with her grandchildren, snowshoeing, and feeding the birds and chippies that frequented her yard, often directly from her hand. And her baking abilities were especially apparent each Christmas season when Janet would bake hundreds of dozens of Christmas cookies, displayed on platters, and given out to family, friends, and neighbors.
Janet is survived by her husband of 42 years, Herb; her sons, Clinton (Lindsay) Crick of Eben Junction and Joseph (Laura Keranen) Crick of Ishpeming; her grandchildren, Eloise and Eero; sisters, Patricia (Timothy) Small of Rockford, IL and Laura (Les) Matthews of Sawyer; and a brother, James McMaster, Jr of Sundell; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, July 27, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Rev. Kevin Taylor will officiate. A reception will be held during the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bay Cliff Health Camp, P.O. Box 310, Big Bay, MI 49808.
The family would like to thank Norlite Nursing Center and staff for their care and compassion.
