MARQUETTE, MI – Gregory Mark Chaperon, 65, of Marquette, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.

He was born May 11, 1959, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a son of John P. and Arlene Y. (Scheetz) Chaperon. He was raised in Marquette and was a 1977 graduate.

Greg served in the US Army for 21 years and was an Operation Dessert Storm veteran. Following his retirement from service, he was employed as a cook at the former Shores Restaurant.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, Marie at their camp in Big Bay. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy.

Greg is survived by his wife, Marie (LeBroke) Chaperon of Marquette, whom he married June 24, 2012; daughters, Sarah (Matthew) Rondel of California, Heather (Chris) Carlson of Marquette and Rachel (Chris) Rondel of South Carolina; 5 grandchildren; Marie’s children, Ashley (Evan) Bergstrom of Bark River, MI and Tyler Downs of Aspen, CO; Marie’s three grandchildren; siblings, Sara (Albert) Fortin of Marquette, Therese Root of Marquette, Gustave (Anne) Rydholm of Marquette, John Chaperon of Marquette, Rebecca (Gary) LaValley of Marquette, Michael (Jenny) Chaperon of Wisconsin, Darrell Chaperon of Arkansas and Beth Rydholm of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Philip E. Chaperon; and step-sister, Cindy Rydholm.

A private celebration of Greg’s life will be held.
