NEGAUNEE, TWP – Donna Jean ‘Nanny’ Bond, 84, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 22, 2024 at the Trillium House in Marquette, under the care of her loving family and UP Home Health & Hospice.
Donna was born November 12, 1939 in Newberry to George and Evelyn (Cardinal) Sampsell, and attended Tahquamenon Area Schools. She married Charles E. Bond on May 25, 1957, and together they moved to the Negaunee area in 1962. Donna was the longtime receptionist at Twin City Medical in Negaunee, and was a devoted homemaker and caretaker to her family.
Mrs. Bond was a longtime member of Marquette Hope United Methodist Church, formerly Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee, and loved attending the post-polio retreats at Bay Cliff. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, baking, and traveling on the Negaunee Senior Center trips. Above all, she loved being with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her three daughters: Cindy (Paul) Bertucci of Ishpeming, Carrie (David) Heard of Negaunee Township, and Charlette (Bob) Hollinshead of Champion; four grandchildren: Mark (Stephanie) Bertucci, Dalton (Abbey) Hollinshead, Mariah (Steve Johnson) Heard, and Addison (Alexander) Starzynski; eight great-grandchildren: Colton, Tony, Carah, Alyzandra, Jaxon, Waylon, Mirabella, and Francesca; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Bond; three sisters: Betty Burton, Bernadine ‘Cookie’ Todd, and Judy O’Neil; and three brothers: George ‘Brother’, Wilbur ‘Googs’, and William Sampsell.
Donna’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the wonderful care provided by the Trillium Hospice House, the nurses with UP Home Health & Hospice, and Dr. Michael Grossman.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, July 29th at Koskey Funeral Home, Negaunee, with Rev. Christopher Hintz officiating. Burial will be in Northland Chapel Gardens. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the start of services at Noon at the funeral home on Monday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services at the Marquette Hope UMC, Mitchell Campus fellowship hall.
