Anna M. Wahlstrom

Anna Wahlstrom

MARQUETTE, MI- Our mother, Anna Margaret Wahlstrom, was born April 16, 1928 in Escanaba, Michigan, the fifth of ten children born to Frank and Teresa Maycunich. She married Leroy (Roy) Wahlstrom on February 4, 1956 and raised eight children.

Mom had many interests and talents. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and played a cutthroat game of Scrabble. We will miss her beautiful voice and love of music, which she passed down to her children. We will miss generosity and warmth, and her love which was too big to be contained and which she shared with the world. She was devoted to her Catholic faith. A long-time parishioner of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey, she loved to attend Saturday afternoon Mass.

Mom was the epitome of a loving lady. She greeted everyone she met with a hug, acceptance, and kindness. As she loved so deeply, she was given love in return. As a wife, she supported and worked beside her husband through many business ventures, most notably, Wahlstrom’s Restaurant which operated in Harvey for 52 years. As a mother, she nurtured, supported, encouraged, and loved all of her children unconditionally. Her love was a never ending source of strength and compassion.

Anna is survived by her sister, Rose Rogers of Escanaba; her children, Steven (Susanna) of Marquette, Ted (Marie) Rockaway, New Jersey, Betty Bingham, Bluffton, SC, Lee (Lola), Racine, WI, Ralph (Cynthia), Buffalo, NY, Roger (Pam), Little Chute, WI, Tom (Elizabeth), Marquette, and Mary Kay (Paul) Zagata, Manton, MI; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Roy, and her brothers and sisters, Mary, Steve, Frances, Ruby, John, Ken, Katherine, Bill, and Veronica.

The Wahlstrom family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, July 13th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating. A luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately following the Mass.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Trillium House. Anna’s care was amazing, and she referred to the caregivers lovingly as “her girls.”ù She enjoyed them all!

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider Trillium House, 1144 Northland Drive, Marquette, MI 49855 in Anna’s memory.

Proverbs 31: A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
