Norman W. Richardson

MARQUETTE, MI – Norman Walter Richardson, age 88, of Marquette, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at home in the loving care of his family and caregivers at Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. A cherished family man, dedicated patriot, and friend to many, Norman was born on March 26, 1936, in Detroit, MI, to Walter and Margaret (Strube) Richardson. Norman’s life was marked by his unwavering spirit of service, love for his family, and a zest for life that was truly infectious.

Norman’s early years in Detroit were a prelude to a life of dedication and hard work. At the tender age of 17, he left school to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. From 1953 to 1962, Norman worked as a cargo handler, earning the National Defense Service Medal for his commitment and bravery. His honorable discharge marked the end of a distinguished military career, but the beginning of a new chapter filled with love and companionship.

In 1969, Norman married the love of his life, Bonnie Thibodeau, and together they built a life filled with joy and laughter. They settled in Belleville in 1972, where they raised a loving family, creating a home that was always warm and welcoming. Norman’s career at the Ford Motor Company spanned many years, where he was known for his hard work and dedication until his retirement in 1999.

Norman’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid fan of Las Vegas, westerns, and James Bond movies. His love for bowling, playing pool, and fishing were more than hobbies; they were ways for him to connect with friends and family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. In his younger years, Norman’s adventurous spirit led him to motorcycles, a passion that brought him great joy and a sense of freedom. Norman was also a proud member of the American Legion and the Moose Club, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and community spirit.

After retiring, Norman and Bonnie moved to Marquette in 2000, where they enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of their surroundings. Norman’s love for his sister Joyce and brother-in-law Jerry Dasher was a testament to the strong family bonds he cherished throughout his life.

Norman’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and hard work. He was a man who was as charming and charismatic as he was giving. His commitment to various charities and his unwavering support for his family are hallmarks of a life well-lived. Norman’s adventurous spirit and loving nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving children, Robin (Bret) Himes of Cedar Rapids, IA, Michael (Karen) Richardson of Taylor, MI, and Robert (Emily Brock) Richardson of Menominee, MI; his adored grandchildren, Nataleah, Allen, Logan, Serena, Megan, Ryan, Brock, Hayden, and Haven; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Jacob, Vita, and Lorelai. Norman also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, two surviving brothers, sisters-in-law, Peggy (Roy) Amsbury and Rosann (Ken) Sult, and brother-in-law, Larry (Colleen) Thibodeau.
