MARQUETTE, MI – Kay Gwendolyn Pepin, age 76, of Marquette, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Norlite Nursing Center in the loving care of her family. Kay was Born on December 15, 1947, in Ishpeming, MI, to John and Mildred (Lawry) Pepin. Kay’s life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and dedication to her community.

Kay was a proud graduate of Ishpeming Night School. Following Graduation, Kay’s passion for community service shone brightly when she joined the Peninsula Rebekah Lodge #173 in Ishpeming in 1986. Her leadership qualities quickly came to the fore, and she was honored to serve as Nobel Grand. The following two years saw her representing her lodge at the Rebekah Assembly of Michigan, a role she undertook with great pride and dedication.

Kay’s service to the lodge continued as she took on the role of secretary, a position she held with distinction. Her years of devoted service were recognized with the high honor of the Declaration of Chivalry, an accolade that reflected her commitment to the ideals of friendship, love, and truth.

Beyond her formal duties, Kay’s love for the outdoors was a central part of her life. She cherished the times spent at Casey Lake with her parents, where she engaged in fishing, boating, and outdoor cooking. These activities were made all the more special by the company of her cousins from lower Michigan, who would join her at the camp for memorable family gatherings.

In her later years, Kay resided at the Norlite Nursing Center, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Norlite for their exceptional care and the genuine friendships they offered to Kay during her stay.

Kay’s faith played an integral role in her life. She was a dedicated member of the Westley United Methodist Church, where her melodious voice was a staple in the church choir. Her involvement with the church extended to the Women’s Society, where she engaged in various activities and formed lasting bonds with her fellow members.

Kay’s legacy is carried on by her loving family and friends. She is survived by several cousins, Her goddaughter, Nina (Greg) Frederickson of Negaunee, MI, and her special friend, Kathleen (Danny) Pompo of Marquette, MI, will forever cherish the memories and the impact Kay had on their lives.

Preceding her in death were her beloved parents, who instilled in her the values of kindness and community service that she embodied throughout her life.

Kay Gwendolyn Pepin will be remembered as a beacon of light in her community, a woman of strength and compassion. Her legacy of service, friendship, and love will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we bid farewell to Kay, we celebrate a life well-lived and the countless lives she touched with her generous spirit.

Graveside Services for Kay will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery on Friday June 7, 2024 at 10:00 am. Rev. Kristi Hintz, pastor, will officiate.
