Don C. Hutchens

GWINN, MI – Don C. Hutchens, 70, of Gwinn, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at his home while under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

He was born November 18, 1953, in Ishpeming, a son of the late Elzy and Doris (Gill) Hutchens. He was a 1972 graduate of Gwinn High School and was a lifelong area resident.

Don married Lynn Ontto, his high school sweetheart, on November 24, 1973.

He began his employment with CCI on August 7, 1972 and worked for the company for just short of 32 years before retiring in 2004 as a repairman. He then went to work as a guide for Superior Game Ranch in Arnold where he made many friends.

Don loved to hunt deer and turkey. He enjoyed spending time at camp with his sons and grandsons where many happy memories were shared watching the deer come to feed. He had three does, Meathead, White Socks and Happy Girl that were his pets.

His family will remember him as a great husband, father, grandfather and a good man.

Don is survived by his wife, Lynn Hutchens; sons, Donny and girlfriend, Heather, Gary and his girlfriend, Afton; grandchildren, Austin & Jason, McKeller, Carley, Aydrah, Annie; great-grandchild, LakeLynn; sisters, Sandy Anway and Gail Kluetsch; brothers-in-law, Ceasar Marchany, Richard (Julie) Ontto; sisters-in-law, Helen (Virgil) Lusk, Phyllis (Robert) Bird; many nieces & nephews; niece, Michelle (Chris) Klamm were extra special to Don during his illness; Michelle, Stacy and Jeffery were all treated like his daughters. Don’s many friends who were so good to him, Joann Ghiardi, and daughter Jody, Josh, Reba Debaker, Ray Springs, Tom and Jody, Terry Ghiringhelli, Louise Juidici, Lloyd and Ernie and Speck; and his beloved dog, Elsa who stayed by his side through his illness. Elsa will miss her Papa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy; sister-in-law, Jeanette; brothers-in-law, Jon Trumble, Alan Anway and Pat Kluetsch.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 10:30 am to 12 Noon at Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon in the funeral home with Rev. Jack Busche officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the funeral home.
