Delbert “Dutch” Storms
Delbert Storms
MARQUETTE, MI- Delbert “Dutch” Storms beloved father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at the Trillium House June 6,2024 at the age of 96 surrounded by his family.
He was a proud veteran who enlisted in 1944, at the age of seventeen, and served during World War II in the Navy. It is truly fitting that he passed away on the 80th anniversary of D- Day. After the war, he married the late Ruth Storms and became a bricklayer for many years.
He was born October 13, 1927, to the late Lester and Ida Storms. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; sons, Jim Hale, Joey Storms, and Lester Storms; daughter, Emmy Lou Brilinski; son-in-law, Joseph December; brothers, Darwin (Mary), Truman, Frank (Dee), Howard (Janice); sister, Phyllis Storms; and grandchildren, Thomas Bushey and Melinda LaFave.
Dutch is survived by his children, Mary Anne Amlotte of Rockford, MI; Ida (Charlie) Doan of Ossineke, MI; Evelyn December of Marquette, MI; and Delbert Storms Jr (Linda) of Marquette, MI; a brother, Norman Storms (Donna) of Flint, MI and sister, Evelyn (Earl) Rollyson of Ocala, FL. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as 32 Grandchildren, 57 Great Grandchildren, and 23 Great-Great Grandchildren.
He was a member of and served as president of the Lions Club in Linden, MI for several years; and a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Old Timers group of Marquette. Upon returning to Marquette, he became an honorary member of the Jokers Motorcycle club in Gwinn MI. He loved roaming the roads throughout MI as the “chase vehicle” with his son Delbert Jr. and the club members.
The family would like to thank the Trillium House and Lake Superior Hospice for the care you provided him; and especially to his case manager, Patty, with whom he had formed a special bond. Their caring went beyond the expected. We greatly appreciate Father Tim who made his last wishes possible; and the “ladies” at Oakwood Village where he had previously resided for sharing their friendship, favorite recipes, and many laughs.
We are sure he will be missed by the staff at Verizon as anyone that knew him knew he was not tech savvy! He cursed his phone daily and made weekly trips to Verizon. He lived a long life and was quite a character. He certainly will be remembered by those he shared numerous adages and proverbs, like “Hogan’s goat” and many others from his Era.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Trillium House 1144 Northland Dr, Marquette MI 49855 or Lake Superior Hospice 914 Baraga Ave, Marquette, MI 49855.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 15th from 10am-12pm with Funeral Service beginning at 12pm at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services.
Military honors will be presented at time of service by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Immediately following services there will be a “Last Ride Motorcycle Procession” leaving from Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Services, going to the Jokers Clubhouse. A Luncheon/Celebration of Life, in his honor, will be held at the Jokers M/C Club (1010 E State Highway, Gwinn MI 49841).
