Augustine “Gus” Francis Clement

Raised in Marquette, Gus attended Success Academy in Escanaba, where he graduated in 2016. Gus began working as a newspaper delivery person for the Marquette Mining Journal at age 12, a job that allowed him to connect with many residents and become a familiar, friendly face around town. Gus worked as delivery person until USPS took over newspaper delivery.

In 2019, Gus began working as a grounds keeper for the Marquette County Courthouse. His hard work made the courthouse grounds a welcoming space for all who visited.

Gus’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid video gamer, often spending his free time immersed in virtual worlds where he made many friends and shared countless adventures. His love for music was all-encompassing, and he could often be found enjoying tunes from a wide range of genres, which he believed were the soundtrack to life’s many moments. Gus also cherished his late-night walks, a time for reflection and peace under the starlit sky.

A lover of simple pleasures, Gus enjoyed a plate of spaghetti every day, a testament to his belief in finding joy in the everyday. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, which knew no bounds. Gus gave freely of himself and his resources, always willing to help others without expecting anything in return.

Gus is survived by his loving parents, James and Laura, who cherished every moment with their son. His brother, Gabriel Clement of Marquette, and sister, Anna Clement from Laurium, MI, will hold dear the memories of their brother’s kind spirit and gentle heart. He also leaves behind his godparents, Don and Sue Thoren of Marquette, MI, as well as many aunts, uncles, and one grandmother, all of whom will miss him deeply.

Gus’s departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled. Yet, those who were touched by his warmth, kindness, and generosity will continue to be inspired by the way he lived his life. Augustine Francis Clement’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his story will be told with love and admiration for years to come.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church. Rev. Greg Heikkala will officiate. A desert reception will follow in the parish hall. Graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Catholic Social Services of the U.P. 347 Rock Street Marquette, MI 49855.
