Anita Joy Swanson

Joy was born June 25, 1928 in Negaunee to William and Irene (Anderson) Waters, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1946, and was a lifelong area resident. She and her husband, the late Charles ‘Chuck’ Swanson, made their home on Peck St., where she was a loving and devoted homemaker to her family.

Mrs. Swanson was a member of Marquette Hope United Methodist Church, Negaunee Campus, the former Mitchell United Methodist Church. She loved traveling to Florida to visit her daughter and granddaughter.

Surviving are her granddaughter, Ashley (Dominic) Filice of Winter Haven, FL; and her son-in-law, Michael Elliott of Lakeland, FL.

Joy is now reunited with the love of her life, Chuck, and her only child, Suzanne, who only passed a week prior on May 24, 2024. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bobby Waters; and half-sisters, Veryle Garrison and Mabel Werner.

Honoring Joy’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery.
