William "George" Quayle

ISHPEMING, MI – William “George” Quayle, age 77, lifelong Ishpeming resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while in the loving care of family, Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice, and staff at MCMCF.

George was born in Ishpeming on February 25, 1947, a son of the late Earland Lempi (Kokkala) Quayle. He graduated from Ishpeming High School. George was drafted in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

George worked for CCI for 36 years, retiring as a heavy equipment operator from the Tilden Mine. Hobbies outside of work included hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, shooting his guns, and traveling, especially his Missions trips.

George is survived by his wife Julianne (Holmgren) Quayle, whom he married on October 28, 1988, children: Tammy (John) Carlson, Tammy (Dan) Schartner, Annette (Bob) Junak and Ron (Kara) Hanlon, grandchildren: Ben (Audrey) Carlson, Andy (Emily) Carlson, Paige Junak, Brock (Katie) Junak, Elli (Jake) Quayle, Connor (Danielle) Hanlon, Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Tanner, Torin, Tymber, Eve, Clay, Maizy, Lilah, and Colton, along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.

George was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Fran Johnson, and two great granddaughters, Rori and Ryann.

All who knew George would remember his unending jokes, love for children and constant smile. He was also never shy about sharing his love for Jesus to anyone at any time. Even during his final days he kept this a top priority and couldn’t stop talking about meeting his Savior face to face.

George’s family will greet relatives and friends on Monday May 27, 2024, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at NORTHIRON Church in Ishpeming where his funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm with Mark Broberg officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps.

The family would like to thank the staff at MCMCF and Lake Superior Hospice for their support and loving care.
