William D. “Billy” Nelson
GWINN, MI- William D. “Billy” Nelson, age 77, former Gwinn area resident, currently of 2242 Norwood St. in Marquette, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Norwood Adult Living Facility where he had resided for the past 14 years.
Billy was born in Ishpeming on April 16, 1947, a son of the late Chelestine (Gravedoni) and Oscar Nelson. Billy was often seen riding his bike around the Gwinn community. He had worked at the Pathways work center in Marquette. He will be fondly remembered for his love of various t-shirts and baseball hats. Billy spent time babysitting nieces and nephews while they grew up in Illinois. Other pastimes included watching westerns on TV and supporting the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Tigers. Billy had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn.
Survivors include brothers – Fred Nelson of Gwinn and John P. Nelson of Marquette, along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James “Peele” Nelson and a sister Betty Deldin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn with the Rev. Fr. Sebastian Oppong officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am – 12:00pm on Tuesday at the church. Interment will take place at the Gwinn Cemetery.
