PALMER, MI – Ronald J. Burton, 69, of Palmer, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 surrounded by his family at the Trillium House in Marquette.
He was born on September 18, 1954 in Coleman, MI, son to Bernard A. and Georgia M. (Umphrey) Burton. Ron graduated from Gwinn High School and then continued his education at Northern Michigan University.
On September 7, 1973, Ron married the former Sally Jo Underwood in Marquette.
Ron retired after his 20 years of employment as a corrections officer at the Marquette Branch Prison.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working, reading, watching western movies, visiting with family and friends, and spending time at his cousins Raymond’s camp.
Among survivors include his loving wife of over 50 years, Sally Jo Burton of Palmer; children, Ron Jay Burton Jr. and Bridgette Jo (James M.) Perrin; grandchildren, James Milton Perrin Jr. and Kaitlyn Nicole Perrin; siblings, Bernadine (Richard) Tremblay, Karla (Carl) Dahl, Brenda (Gary) Ruehle, Ruth (Boe) Stigall, and Ernest (Margret) Underwood; and nieces and nephews, Rick Tremblay, Jr., Harlond and James Foster, Heather Evans, Amber Spicher, Angie and Carolyn Larson, Zack, Michelle, Gina, Carolyn, and Joseph Stigall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Holsinger; nephew, Allan Fisher; niece, Amy Holsinger; brothers in law, Daniel Cortez, James Underwood, Frank Underwood, and David Underwood; sisters in law, Carol (Tom) Larson and Rosie Boyer; step mother, Nancy Burton; and mother and father-in-law, Jim and Belle Underwood.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Rapid River Cemetery at 1 p.m. with Harlond Foster officiating. A message of condolence may be directed to the family by visiting crawfordfuneralhomes.net.
