John W. Lamirand

Born November 13, 1944, in Ishpeming, a son of Hugh and Lucille (Frenetti) Lamirand, John was raised in Harvey and graduated from Marquette Senior High School. He served in the US Army during Vietnam with most of his duty in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, John returned to the Marquette area. On July 3, 1964, John was united in marriage to Donna Croschere and together the couple made their home in Marquette Township. Throughout the years, John was employed with various local businesses and finally in custodial-maintenance at St. Christopher Catholic Church, from where he retired. In his leisure moments, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and loved going to camp with family and friends. For most of his life, John had a fascination with classic cars and he served for a time as president of the Northern Nights Car Club. He also possessed a love of travel and this led to wintering 17 years with Donna in Mesa, Arizona.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna; a son, Benjamin (Theresa O’Brien) Lamirand of Harvey; his daughters, Jean Lamirand of Ketchikan, AK and Jackie Lamirand of Elmore, OH; his grandchildren, Samantha, Ben, Andrew, Jeb, Danny, Amanda, Dakota, and Carli; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Christopher; his parents-in-law; four sisters and two brothers; and his canine companion, Marty.

Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Thursday, May 30, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 noon. Rev. Greg Heikkala will officiate. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room.
