FORT MYERS, FL – George W. Quinnell passed away in Fort Myers Fl on April 1, 2024.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1929 to George C. Quinnell and Evelyn Pace Quinnell in Marquette, Mi. He graduated from Graveraet High School in 1945, married and then served in the Army during the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge in 1952. After earning his Master of Arts Degree from The University of Michigan in Germanic Languages he took a teaching position at Defiance College in Ohio. In 1962 he was awarded the first of two Fulbright Scholarships which allowed him and his young family to travel and live in Europe where he taught English in Finland and Germany. In 1974 he acquired his Juris Doctor degree from The Detroit College of Law and moved back to Marquette to practice in the family law firm. He also did title work for oil companies traveling all over Texas as a Landman. In 1985 he moved to Key West where he worked as an attorney and then retired to Fort Myers Florida.
He is preceded in death by his son, David Quinnell of Ann Arbor, MI; his brother Edward A. Quinnell of Marquette, MI; and his sister Marion Quinnell-Hotchkiss of Kaneohe, HI.
George’s surviving relatives are Kaarina Quinnell of Ann Arbor, MI as well as several nieces and nephews.
Often you would hear George signing off of a conversation saying “Cheerio” instead of “Goodbye,” so here’s to you dear George, “Cheerio!”
