Elaine Denise Vashaw

Elaine loved spending time with her family and was a dedicated mother and wife who was thrilled to recently become a grandma for the first time. She loved all things holiday and devoted many hours to decorating for family gatherings. She had a long career at the Forest Hills transportation department before retiring. Her retirement years were filled with new adventures including hiking the woods and shorelines of Lake Superior and the beautiful mountains of Arizona where she and her husband spent the winters.

Elaine was a huge Michigan State athletic fan, and enjoyed following Spartans football, men’s basketball and women’s gymnastics teams. Go Green! She made new friends easily, often on a pickleball court or a hiking trail. Perhaps her favorite times were going for sunset pontoon rides on their lakeside home in Marquette while listening to her favorite song list and looking for nearby eagles. She loved all her pets and will be dearly missed by her two dogs Rocky and Aspen both rescues from Colorado.

She is survived by her mother, Barbara Kryger, her siblings, Chris Kryger, Kathy Devoid, David (Kate) Kryger. She will be lovingly missed by her husband Scott Vashaw, son Ryan Vashaw, daughter Lauren (Ryan) Mass, and grandson, Crosby James Mass.

She was preceded in death by her father Ronald Kryger.

A private graveside service will be scheduled for this summer at a date and time yet to determined. Donations can be made to Parker’s Animal Rescue in Durango, Colorado.
