MARQUETTE, MI – Barbara F. Erdmann, age 88, of 1731 Elm Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday, May 26, 2024 in the loving care of her family with support from Assisted Independence.
Born February 24, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the only child of Franklin and Margaret (Guse) Reinschmidt. Barbara was raised in Milwaukee and was a graduate of Washington High School. She continued her education at Wisconsin State Teachers College for over three years, pursuing a degree in Elementary Teaching.
Barbara married Gayne (Gus) Erdmann in 1957 and the couple moved to Missouola, Montana where Gayne attended Montana State University earning his B.S. and Masters degree in Forestry. His job with the USDA/Forest Service took them to Ames, lowa for six years, and finally to Marquette in 1966.
Barbara loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed movies, playing bridge, crafting with friends, having a close knit community of neighbors, and book club. She sang for a number of years in the choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Vacation time was spent at the family cabin and lake home on Toulish Lake in Wisconsin. Barbara loved all six dogs that rounded out the family over the years.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 67 years, Gayne G. Erdmann; her children, Guy Erdmann of Topsham, ME, Gay Lynn Cuming of Round Rock, TX, Genny Erdmann and Gwen Gentz both of Marquette; grandchildren, Kristen (Jordan) Wieber of Round Rock, TX, Connor and Callie Gentz, Gillian, Geena, and Gabriel Erdmann-Lipp all of Marquette. Great-grandsons Brodie Luhan and Luke Wieber of Round Rock, TX.
Barbara was looking forward to the marriage of Connor and Sabrina in 2025, and was very fond of Callie’s significant other, Matthew, who checked in on her frequently during her time of illness.
Honoring Barbara’s wishes, no public services will be held, and a private family gathering will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855 or Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter, 815 S. M-553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
